Cardinal Burke: “deepest gratitude” for the show of “support and most of all for your prayers.”

You may recall a petition to thank Cardinal Burke for his wonderful , inspiring leadership, was arranged by Lifesite News a while ago. Yesterday they posted a video on Youtube of Cardinal Burke's response when presented with the petition of support.

Cardinal Burke has never ceased to be a constant source of spiritual inspiration for me and has always had the reputation of being Catholic; no ifs, no buts. He does not prevaricate or make excuses, he starts with the faith, and then applies it with mercy to people's lives.

Whenever I have heard him talk, it has struck me how he has a gift for explaining difficult teachings of the Church with utter clarity, and in a context that shows that the teaching is not a weapon or a tool used to attack others, rather it is the truth about our lives that, applied with caritas, brings us to a closer relationship with God.

The more I hear about Cardinal Burke, the more I hear about his compassion and mercy. His vocation lived out every day of his life. Take this beautiful example: The Kindness of a Shepherd where the Cardinal embraces a sick, crying child and comforts him. He didn’t just smile at the sad child, he asked what was wrong and comforted him. This is a little story that meant a great deal to the family involved and presents us with another example of how Cardinal Burke lives his vocation and is a model of a true shepherd.

I was delighted to hear that SPUC; the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, have secured Cardinal Burke to speak at their National Pro-life Youth Conference 2015 which will run from Friday 6 March (late afternoon) until Sunday 8 March 2015 (after lunch), at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Southport (near Liverpool). The price is £100, including all meals and accommodation. The conference is open to those from the age of 16 to 35. To book, please:
download the registration form (if you are under-18, please download this version instead) complete it and post it with the conference fee enclosed to: Youth Conference, SPUC, 3 Whitacre Mews, Stannary Street, London, SE11 4AB.

If you have a query about the conference please contact Rhoslyn Thomas by email to conference@spuc.org.uk or by telephone to 020 7820 3140.

This presents us with a vital opportunity for our young people to equip themselves with the knowledge needed to go out and carry out pro-life work in our schools, universities, homes and communities. This is the starting point from which we branch out and achieve the goal of defending and promoting the sanctity of human life. It is an opportunity that is not be missed!
